Fumbles & Foibles

For my last act as editor this semester, I want to get a few things off of my chest. This is no -30- column, but I have committed some previously unmentionable acts in the newspaper office that I feel now would be a fine time to clear. I believe my debts to society at large are pre-paid by my groveling service to the University community, who I hope against hope still have enough faith to keep reading us every week.

I Remember...

“I’ve got yellow fucking pants on!” Hollywood Holt yelled as he hyped up the crowd of 10 to 15 people inside Complete Clothing on Eighth and Congress. The in-store show was organized to coincide with what many called the Chi-town Invasion during South by Southwest, a single day where Chicago rappers and producers flocked to the Texas capital to perform during the legendary festival. After he asks for more gunshots and sirens from his DJ and producer, Mano, he explains, “We’re gonna have a whole mixtape track made up of nothing but gunshots and sirens. We’re gonna call it ‘Gunshots and Sirens.’ I love that annoying shit.”

Ghosts of the Russian Empire

If you’re an honest, taxpaying Texas citizen, you owe it yourself to listen to Ghost of the Russian Empire — after all, your hard-earned bucks helped subsidize the band’s music.

Summer mission: see it all

Ah, the last week of school. Without all-nighters, papers to write, tests to take and professors to beg, whatever shall we do? How do we pass this copious amount of free time they call summer? Without laying around on our dear old campus everyday, where will we go?

The Master Pancake show combines everyone’s favorite things: movies, food, drinks, and lots o’ laughter. Crewmember John Erler took some time to chat with DT Weekend about wrinkly scrotum creatures and Patrick Swayze.

A Few of My Favorite Things

I love smorgasbords. This semester, I had the opportunity to attend two of the best: South by Southwest and the Texas Hill Country Food & Wine Festival’s Stars Across Texas gala.
