1944: Found guilty of armed robbery, sent to Intermediate Reformatory for Young Men at Algoa. 1955: First recording with Chess Records produces “Maybellene” which peaks at number 5 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart. 1956: “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Brown Eyed Handsome Man,” and “Havana Moon” recorded. 1958: “Sweet Little Sixteen” ranked at number 2 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart. 1959: Appears in the film “Go, Johnny, Go” 1961: Sentenced to three years in jail and a $10,000 fine for violating the Mann Act by transporting a woman across state lines for immoral purposes. 1967: Releases live album from the Fillmore 1972: “My Ding-A-Ling” is Berry’s first number 1 hit. 1979: Convicted of income tax evasion, third sentence of imprisonment. 1986: Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 1987: Documentary “Hail!
