As the national wrestling scene became increasingly monopolized by Vince McMahon and as my interest in it subsequently faded, I stumbled upon a backyard wrestling organization in my hometown that made me change the way I thought about wrestling. These kids were slowly killing themselves, week after week, in order to feel alive for just a few moments. It was there that I learned that the people behind the created characters were often much more interesting than charcters themselves.
When I discovered that there was a professional wrestling organization here in Austin, I jumped at the opportunity to see what it was like to be a part of the industry. For the past three months I have trained alongside the members of Champions of Texas Power Wrestling. What I experienced there was often far greater than words could describe, but what did translate can be read within this issue.
My wrestling training will climax on Saturday, April 22, when I have my first, last and only wrestling match of my career. If you decide to come, be sure to tell them that The School Boy sent you.
